Why of Course it’s MOPO

Hi there!

I thought you might want to know a little about the person behind the scenes before you dig in to reading my blog. I started my journey of travel at the really young age of ten, if you can believe that. Even though I didn’t realize it at the time, I was a pretty fortunate little girl whose parents decided to send her to France for a month with a large group of kids and adults (that you can read about in another post). I think that’s where my journey really started, my love of travel.

As far as my love of cooking is concerned, it all started in middle school when I took Home Economics. Not only did I have to learn how to sew, but I was so excited to learn all about cooking. I probably should say it was more about getting to EAT what we cooked!

At the young age of 21 I started working for what used to be a small  airline, and for the next 31 years I watched the company grow up, while I did too – personally and professionally, in several different roles. In case you’re wondering, some of them include taking reservations, working at multiple airports, headquarters, and the training department. I have always loved learning new things, and was very passionate about making sure people had everything they needed to be successful as they start a new job at a new company.

If there was one thing I learned during my tenure, it’s that most people don’t want you to speak on their behalf. So, I started prefacing my ideas or thoughts with “this is just MOPO, my own personal opinion.” It became my catch phrase. I was a little surprised that after a while, there were a few people I knew who started using the phrase too. Thus, the name for the Blog!

The reason I wanted to start writing, is because I have had so many people tell me how much they love seeing my photos and posts on Facebook  when my husband and I travel to different states or countries. Another reason is because I love to cook and so does my hubby. Last year we took a week long cooking class in Italy and I happened to mention that I should start writing about all our adventures, cooking classes, and recipes for our wood burning oven. I was kind of surprised that the idea was met with quite a bit of encouragement.

My hope is that there will be one or more topics that you start following right here on It’s MOPO!

I look forward to hearing feedback as I take this new journey in life to share some of my own personal opinions about a variety of topics that include:

  • Eats and Treats – this is all about cooking with a wood burning oven – something that my husband and I have come to love experimenting with.
  • It’s MOPO Reviews – if you’re wanting to know about restaurants, places to stay, or things to do, this is the place for you.
  • Travel Times – some of my favorite places I’ve visited over the years, and new places I’m going to be visiting in the years to come!

Thanks for your support, and I look forward to hearing your comments. You can also  send me a note to missy295@itsmopo.com!
